Al Sharpton is a well known civil rights activist. He has been instrumental in the fight for social justice for decades. Sharpton highlights national causes through the National Action Network. He ran for mayor of New York City and for the United States Senate in New York. ‘Politics Nation with Al Sharpton’ is a weekday one-hour television show that airs on MSNBC http://www.msnbc.com/politicsnation covering political topics from healthcare to income equality or gay rights. Sharpton has been a long time advocate for gay rights and he preaches for more understanding of the issue within the African American community.

Sharpton has become more centrist in his approach in recent years. He is a big supporter of most of the work being done by the Obama Administration. Sharpton draws some criticism for other activist for not pressuring President Obama on issues like poverty more. MSNBC has Sharpton commenting on a lot of the nuance of voter suppression issues.
