The Colbert Report is a late night TV show that airs on Comedy Central from Monday to Thursday. Stephen Colbert has hosted the show since its 2005 launch. During the show, Colbert focuses on trending political and social news. The show’s format satirizes pundit news programs with Colbert playing the fictional role of an anchor character. The Colbert Report has however on occasion presented non-satirical news. Prior to starting his own show, Colbert worked as a correspondent on another Comedy Central show, “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”. His strong performance and writing contribution led to Comedy Central’s decision to award him his own eponymous show. Colbert first gained a lot of attention after his performance on the film “Strangers with Candy”. Since its release, The Colbert Report has been nominated for more than half a dozen Emmy awards in various categories. In 2013, the show won two Emmys, one for ‘Outstanding Writing and another for ‘Outstanding Variety Series.’
